The next phase in our Urban Village is the redevelopment of Kings Lane Corner. This provides a natural extension to Urban Village and will front onto the Strand and the lane, which is a key pedestrian link to High Street and the city centre.

The project will include two separate areas for commercial use: the lower part of the building that fronts on to the Strand is intended to accommodate small scale office use. In the main elevation facing Worcester Place and the Castle, a new commercial unit over two storeys is being created that anticipates a café/restaurant type use. A new glazed box is proposed that will form part of this unit and front onto the Castle and open space.

The scheme is being undertaken in tandem with the Castle Gardens scheme that is being taken forward by the Council on adjacent land. In combination, the two projects will transform this important part of the city.

This development comprises comprehensive refurbishment with a partial demolition programme, which at present includes the provision of 17 homes along and 2 commercial units at ground and first floor. The contractor for this site is Easyliving Ltd.

The development is part-funded by Welsh Government’s Transitional Accommodation Capital Programme (TACP) and is due for completion in 2026.

There will be 2 commercial units, one on the Kingsway (formerly McDonalds) and the other on Park Street (formerly the Travel House). The development will also benefit from a green roof on the building via the Welsh Governments Transforming Towns Programme.

The contractors for this development are Easy Living Ltd. Work started in Summer 2024 with expected handover in Autumn 2025.

The scheme includes residential apartments along with three commercial units fronting Dunraven Street.
