At Beacon Cymru, we celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Wales and the spaces that shape communities. Castle Cinema in Swansea, once a cornerstone of the city’s entertainment scene, is now set to undergo a remarkable transformation that will secure the building for future generations, whilst providing much-needed housing and commercial units.

We recently took ITV Wales News on a tour – watch it below.

Opened in 1913, Castle Cinema has withstood the test of time, surviving fire bomb damage in World War II and the changing tides of the entertainment industry. Many local people have fond memories of it as a cinema or latterly as Laserzone.

However, decades of neglect have left the building at risk, and without intervention, its historic façade and unique architectural details were at serious risk of being lost. We are delighted to be working with contractors Easyliving Ltd to redevelop the building, thanks to the support of Welsh Government and Swansea Council. Work is about to start to transform the cinema into a mix of 30 apartments, a cafe/restaurant premises with spectacular views over neighbouring Swansea Castle, and office space, whilst retaining the architectural features of this iconic, listed building.
