Beacon Cymru is delighted to announce that its green space at Mount Pleasant Hospital in Swansea has retained the prestigious Green Flag Award for the third consecutive year.
Awarded in Wales by Keep Wales Tidy, the Green Flag is the benchmark for outstanding parks and green spaces that are well-managed, accessible, and environmentally sustainable. Mount Pleasant Hospital remains one of only a select number of locations in Swansea to receive the honour.
The award is part of an international programme that recognises the very best in urban green space management, with 315 sites across Wales celebrating this status in 2025.

The former Mount Pleasant Hospital site has been transformed by Beacon Cymru into a residential community surrounded by thoughtfully designed green spaces. These include wildflower meadows, native tree planting, and biodiversity-friendly features that support local wildlife and pollinators.
Lucy Prisk, Green Flag Coordinator for Keep Wales Tidy said:
“We’re thrilled to see 315 green spaces in Wales achieving the prestigious Green Flag status, which is testament to the dedication and hard work of hundreds of staff and volunteers.
“Quality green spaces play a vital role in the physical and mental well-being of people across Wales, and to be recognised as among the best in the world is a huge achievement – Congratulations!”
Luke Takeuchi, Beacon’s Deputy Chief Executive said:
“Retaining Green Flag status reflects Beacon’s ongoing investment in creating places that support both people and the planet. The site forms part of our broader environmental strategy, which includes sustainable construction practices, nature-positive estate maintenance, and resident-led gardening schemes.
The caretakers for Mount Pleasant Hospital, Mark and Sean, have put a tremendous amount of thought, work and planning into making this space such a welcoming space that benefits residents and pays tribute to the legacy of this historic building and its grounds. It’s great to see this recognised again by Keep Wales Tidy for a third year running.”
